Audubon Arkansas recently received a large grant to work with private landowners to improve/create 600 acres of ivory-bill habitat within its likely range in Arkansas.

The project objectives are to:

  • Work with identified landowners to improve habitat on private lands acreage employing appropriate techniques of
    • reforestation of cleared or degraded areas and/or
    • forest habitat improvement including: prescribed burning, thinning and removal of exotic species as needed.
  • Conduct baseline surveys and monitor habitat improvement in order to evaluate the project’s success.
  • Report on the project’s success as demonstrated by monitoring and evaluation activities.
  • Work with landowners to facilitate monitoring and continuation of habitat improvements.
